State Rep. Justin Pizzulli (R-Scioto County) announced that the Ohio Controlling Board has approved the release of $709,900 for the Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry to expand Shawnee State Forest. The funding will be used to acquire 250 acres of land from the Nature Conservancy, a move that will put authority over the land back in the hands of local leaders.

“This purchase will put authority over the land back in the hands of local leaders,” said Pizzulli. “The concerns of our Township Trustees were heard loud and clear, and this is an important step in the right direction to ensure vital tax revenue can eventually make its way back to the 90th district. It’s also important to protect our natural resources so that our families can live off this land. I’m overjoyed to see this land come back to the people.”

The funding for this acquisition comes from the H2Ohio Initiative and marks the first acquisition of the newly created H2Ohio Rivers program.
